The school of mental health (SOMH) is an academic initiative of VIMHANS towards capacity development and to train professionals in mental health and related disciplines. SOMH has come in to existence on 4th December 2004. The academic initiative at VIMHANS is nurtured by a committed and well qualified team of colleagues to shape a new generation of mental health professionals to stand on their own feet
Activities of SOMH
1. SOMH strives for a trans disciplinary and transcultural perspective in its approach to develop a philosophy which emphasizes Indian ethos and socio-cultural models.
2.To conduct short term structured guided clinical exposure in mental health for students of psychology , social work , nursing ,occupational therapy and related disciplines.
3.To provide broad based structured clinical exposure in mental health for students who undertake clinical training at SOMH.
4. To conduct skill based and focussed workshops covering various issues in mental health
5. To focus on the community mental health through various outreach projects.
FUTURE PLANS
1.To conduct short term training programmes in mental health for various disciplines like psychology ,nursing rehabilitation ,substance abuse ,child mental health etc.
2.To conduct research in mental health with a clinical and interdisciplinary approach.
